Ryan Whittington

Dear Friends,

We hope everyone’s year is off to a great start! We have to start by thanking SHC’s caregivers, who really stepped up during January’s inclement weather. We are so proud and appreciative of their dedication to make sure clients received the care they need.

This time of year is always fun because February 20th is National Caregiver Day, and we love celebrating our amazing caregivers! We truly believe that SHC’s caregivers are the best-of-the-best out there, and we feel blessed to have so many amazing caregivers in the SHC family. In addition to the great caregivers we employ, we have the honor of teaming with many dedicated family caregivers to support their loved ones. There are many home care companies out there and we don’t take it lightly when caregivers and families choose to work with us.

We’ve been making an effort to focus on our social media presence this year. If you haven’t visited the Seniors Home Care or Sage Facebook pages, please give us a follow. We’ll be posting information and stories more frequently – and if there is something you would like to see more of, please let us know. We want to learn how to best communicate with you and the online home care community at large.

We wish everyone a wonderful spring season!

Yours in Service,
Gretchen & Ryan Whittington

Angie Kalinowski, MSW, Becomes Certified Care Manager!

Our very own, Angie Kalinowski, MSW, has become a Certified Care Manager. This certification verifies that she has met specific education and experience requirements, passed the rigorous examination, and adheres to strict professional standards.

This achievement was earned through the National Academy of Certified Care Managers (NACCM), a nonprofit organization that ensures that Care Managers are qualified to perform the full range of care management tasks through a validated, standardized examination.

As defined by NACCM, “Care Managers are health and human services professionals who support clients through a person-centered, culturally responsive process of assessment, planning, coordination, monitoring, and advocacy.”

To maintain certification, Certified Care Managers are required to participate in continuing education and professional development. Certification is renewed every three years to ensure that Care Managers are practicing at the highest professional level.

Angies hard work will help promote the health and well-being of SHC clients and assist them to access the services and supports needed to achieve their goals.

Great job Angie!

Enjoy an Honorary Personalized Parking Spot!

We have a fun new honor for caregivers celebrating their annual reviews. When a caregiver has been with Seniors Home Care for one year, they come into the office for their review and annual raise. We’ve found another way to celebrate caregivers on their special day – their very own honorary parking spot! Here’s Angelina enjoying the spot on her big day!

We’re always looking for ways to make anniversaries more special. If you have any ideas, please let us know.

Adam Foster Fine Jewelry

We recently met with the folks at Adam Foster Fine Jewelry, who told us about a neat service they offer, in which they rework the design or fit of a loved one’s jewelry so that it may continue being appreciated as it is passed down. Here is a little information about the company.

Adam Foster Fine Jewelry creates every custom piece in-house, by hand, using a process that’s as personal as the piece itself.

They enjoy reimagining jewelry that clients currently own. You can bring in your own stone, charm or family heirloom and work one-on-one with Adam on a new design. Adam believes jewelry should reflect the wearer and their lifestyle, and above all, should be worn and loved. Jewelry pieces that are tucked away and never worn don’t provide enjoyment.

Consultations are free. Appointments are available for their Frontenac showroom, but not required. Whether you arrive with a vision or a blank slate, they make the process simple and help you make something meaningful.

Showroom Hours:
Monday, Wednesday-Friday, 9am – 5pm
Tuesday, 9am – 6:30pm
Saturday, 10am – 2pm

Get to Know…Megan Middleton, Caregiver Ambassador

Many of you have likely met Megan in one way or another because, quite frankly, she does it all. Megan started with SHC as a caregiver. Though she is still a caregiver, her role has expanded greatly as she continues to stand out for her skill, compassion, and reliability. As Caregiver Ambassador, Megan wears many hats. She works on-call, filling in for last minute client needs or caregiver call-offs. She is present at many client and caregiver first shifts to ensure a smooth experience for everyone involved. She provides on-site training for caregivers dealing with new or difficult conditions or equipment. She assists the Care Management Department by doing client visits and medication set-up. During on-call hours in which she is not in the field, she assists the Scheduling Department with filling shifts. The list goes on (and will likely grow as she proves how capable she is!). We’re so grateful to have her on the SHC team!

Fun facts about Megan:

  • Favorite movies are Beauty & the Beast and Titanic
  • Hobbies include hiking, camping and reading
  • Has two dogs (one named Walter, after Walt Disney, and one named Muffin) and one cat (named Tacocat, which is spelled the same forwards and backwards)
  • Proudest accomplishment is being a mother
  • Can play violin and electric violin

Testimonial

“We switched from a national company to SHC over a year ago. I do not live near my elderly mother so much falls to her caregivers. They are kind, patient, responsible and repeatedly go above and beyond. I no longer have to worry about her daily care, including getting her to doctor appointments, medications, food, hydration, activity, pet care, etc. I am so glad we found SHC for my mom’s care.”
