Ryan Whittington

Greetings Friends,

Another summer is flying by, and things aren’t showing signs of slowing down. There has been a lot going on at SHC and we’re looking forward to some fun events in the upcoming months.

On September 19, we’re sponsoring and participating in the Project Present Trivia Night. Project Present is a wonderful local organization that offers programs to improve quality of life for caregivers, older adults, and individuals living with dementia. We have enjoyed partnering with them for continuing training for our SAGE dementia caregivers, and we’re happy to support them through a fun night of trivia. Learn more about the trivia night and joining our team in the article later in this newsletter.

Next, on October 31, we’re starting Halloween Day by once again participating in the St. Louis Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The walk is not only a fun event but a cause that’s near and dear to our hearts. Keep reading below to learn more!

We’re also excited to welcome a few new faces at SHC. After 23 years of assisting our accounting department in different capacities, Steve St. Cyr retired in June. While we were sad to see him go, we’re happy to bring on David Welch to fill Steve’s big shoes and assist Joyce part-time in the Accounting Department.

Furthermore, we welcome Katie Stratton to our ever-growing Care Management Department. She joins Angie, Jill, and Julie to conduct assessments, plan care, coordinate referrals, advocate for SHC clients, and support SHC caregivers. We’re delighted that she has joined the SHC family!

In addition to Katie and David, we have another new “member” of the team – Phoebe. Phoebe is our new after-hours AI agent who will soon assist clients and caregivers outside of business hours. (Phones will still be answered by an SHC staff member 7 days a week, from 7:30am-5:00pm.) Don’t worry, if you have an emergency, Phoebe will escalate an issue to a human member of the team for follow-up. But don’t underestimate her, Phoebe can assist with many tasks. She isn’t taking the place of human interaction. Rather, she will provide assistance during evening hours when a call would have otherwise gone to voicemail.

We hope everyone stays cool and hydrated as summer starts to wind down.

Yours in Service,
Gretchen & Ryan Whittington

Activated Insights

At Seniors Home Care, we are constantly striving to improve. One way we do this is by utilizing the third-party survey company, Activated Insights.

Activated Insights allows us to gather valuable feedback from both clients and caregivers to maintain our high standards and continue to improve.

Activated Insights may reach out to you in several ways:

If you receive an email, text, or phone call from any of the above contacts, please do not ignore it. By taking a few moments to participate in a survey, you make your voice heard and help us gain valuable feedback. For clients, Activated Insights will reach out after two weeks of service, 45 days, and ongoing. For caregivers, Activated Insights will reach out after two weeks, 45 days, 75 days, six months, and ongoing.

As always, if you are having an issue or feel that there is an opportunity for us to improve, don’t wait for the survey – call the office to let us know. (We love hearing about your positive experiences too!)

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Glass Dog Agency

We recently had the pleasure of meeting with Glass Dog Agency. We were impressed and intrigued with their agency and felt compelled to share a little bit about them.

Glass Dog Agency’s mission is to protect the bond between aging adults and the animals who give their lives comfort, stability, purpose, and companionship.

Companion animals have become integral members of the family, yet the systems surrounding healthcare, estate planning, senior living, hospitality, emergency preparedness, and other industries have struggled to keep pace.

For many older adults, a pet is not simply part of the household. They may be a person’s closest companion, emotional anchor, daily routine, and reason to keep moving forward. Yet as health needs change, families often discover that traditional senior-care and pet-care systems were not designed to work together. Medical appointments, hospitalization, mobility limitations, cognitive decline, relocation, and transitions into assisted living can quickly place both the person and the animal at risk.

Glass Dog Agency exists to close that gap.

They work alongside families, in-home care providers, senior-living communities, trust officers, and other professionals to help older adults remain safely connected to their pets through every stage of aging. Their approach combines pet-care coordination, long-term planning, behavioral and medical support, emergency preparedness, and continuity-of-care solutions.

The goal is to keep pets with their people for as long as it is safe and beneficial. They also help prepare each animal for an uncertain future, building the resilience, care structure, and documented plan needed to support a successful transition if the pet ultimately outlives their human companion. Exceptional pet care is no longer just about feeding, walking, or boarding animals. It is about creating thoughtful systems that allow people and pets to thrive together through every stage of life.

Testimonial

“We switched from a national company to SHC over a year ago. I do not live near my elderly mother so much falls to her caregivers. They are kind, patient, responsible and repeatedly go above and beyond. I no longer have to worry about her daily care, including getting her to doctor appointments, medications, food, hydration, activity, pet care, etc. I am so glad we found SCH for my mom’s care.”
